Coffee Table Confessions

Today I spent some time with my friend Jody. You may remember her house from Anna Spiro's Blog last month. Just before I left today I took this photo. What I love about her coffee table is the way she has displayed a few of her favourite things. My favourite are the 3 mirrored trinket boxes. It seems everyone has a coffee table at home. How do you use yours?

  1. Our coffee table is a wooden chest that my husband refinished. We store all of our board games inside. I rotate the items on top a little but it usually just has a vintage globe, and a couple of books. I try to leave quite a bit of open space so we can put our feet up.

  2. Mine I'm afraid becomes a hot spot for way too much clutter! Books, magazines and everything that goes.

  3. On mine there's a candle only. We dine there and rest our feet too..., but I'd love to have it look a bit more finished, you might get a kick out of this post: What's on your Coffee Table?

  4. I can't wait till I can fill up my coffee table with gorgeous things. My coffee table unfortunately acts as everyones foot rest and home to the remote controls. I love her cushions in the background too.

  8. Hi Simone,
I remember this house from Anna's blog and I love the choice of colours. On my coffee table--everything except coffee, that is how my hubby jokes about it, as it's covered with my favourite things, mainly candles, design books etc which leaves little room to put coffee mugs while having one around it ;)

  9. That is a beautiful coffee table!
Our coffee table at home is basically just another place where everyone dumps things :(
Like letters, magazines, tv remotes. But we do have a very nice book which has an amazing photograph for every day of the year from around the world.

  14. Oh my goodness, how devine does that look. If my coffee table has anything as beautiful as that on it - you know that it would be broken/hidden/chewed as soon as my back was turned. My coffee table consists of a few Home Beautiful magazines and some coasters! I wish it looked like the one in your picture.

  15. In my family room, I have a farmhouse style table.. on it I have a basket that holds my magazines, which my cat uses to sleep in... a glass dish w/some polished river rocks and a candle....that's it.. less is more for me..
My living room has a round table w/ Leivowitz's latest photography book, cloisonne turtle, sandstone hearts and some pottery barn animal ornaments which i love, they all sit on a painted dish I found at Home Goods.

  16. That is beautiful! My coffee table is actually an old trunk I bought in London that would have been used on passenger liners. It is lined with ticking and has a tray in the top so I can use it to store things - mainly photo albums and my collection of cassette tapes from my youth I can't throw out! I display stacks of books on the top along with a vase of fresh flowers when I am being domestic!

  17. I really like how she arranged her table with favorite things, and I love the fresh flowers. I always like flowers or a plant on a coffee table to bring it some life. My table has a green succulent plant in a chocolate brown ceramic pot and my wedding album. I feel that's all I need on there! :)

  18. Hi, Simone! ♥ I so admire the coffe tables I've seen displayed but having raised 4 boys, mine would become a junk yard! We fought constant battles about keeping them clean or else the boys would put their feet on them while watching movies and TIP the coffee table back and forth and all the stuff would slide off and... Get the picture? I am now a coffee table free gal but I dream of having one again some day. ☺

  19. I have many, many coffee tables in my home. I switch them out a lot. My most favorite is a big, old, beefy-looking teak table, with intricate detail carved along the side. It is marred, and scratched, and battered, and it is perfectly imperfect.
Right now though I have a very big leather ottoman type coffee table, as my grandchildren were hitting their heads into the teak one when falling, so while I don't favor the upholstered leather, it is much softer. I don't adorn it due to the grandkids (except with their toys), but it is a storage container too so it does double-duty as it holds all my serving platters and trays!

LOVE your friend's display! My favorite is the silver pitcher.

  20. Mine has my favourite candles of all sizes that i love to burn, a bunch of flowers from my garden and my teapot lamp!! Ps I remember Jody's house, it looked divine :)

  21. Sooo pretty! I'm a minimalist so just some fresh flowers for me.

  22. how lovely. i am a sucker for a good tablescape. and the coffee table is no exception. my own is large and houses 2 stacks of books, a lime washed box with the ugly bits tucked in (remote controls etc), a black and gold bowl i got at target in the clearance bin for like, 2.95 and some marble tear drop tea light holders from west elm. all in all it works pretty well. but this picture from jody's house makes me want to change everything!!

  23. I love coffee tables...mine is a huge round white one...right now i have magazines/books...candles...and some teacups stacked on it. It changes constantly..this one in your friends house is beautiful! Much more organized then mine.

  24. Oh, how I long to lounge in this room and read a good book! Beautiful!

  25. The book I'm currently reading is on mine, plus candles. I like the large trinket box, I guess I prefer bigger things.

  26. Such a pretty coffee table display! I have a stack of books in a woven tray with some seashells in a bubble glass bowl. My coffee table is pretty small!

  27. Mine is an apothecary table, so I have drawers on 2 sides that I use to store DVDS and some other stuff I don't want to display. A Friend made it for me when I lived in Indiana. It weighs a ton, so it was a "joy" to move it to my new place but I love it.

The oneyou have here is just lovely. I love the displayed items without it looking messy or staged.

  28. Hi Simone,

Gorgeous photo! The coffee table in my living room I display some of my favorite books, as well as some of my little silver and crystal treasures. The one in the family room is not quite so lovely...it displays "the man's" numerous remote controls and sports magazines. I guess it's a fair trade off!!

  30. It's so funny, when I look at a photo I am taking in the entire room. I love the pillows on her couch they are so pretty and colorful. I also love the flower frogs on her coffee table they immediately caught my eye since, I like to collect them. As for my coffee table it gets redesigned often however, it usually always has the latest issue of my favorite magazine.

  31. Her coffee table is definitely gorgeous! Mine has a few corals from previous travels, my favorite designer books, candleholders & a vintage potpourri bowl.

Her trinkets are definitely awesome conversation pieces!
