I bought this little lamp for a $3 at the dump some time ago. It had been sitting in my back room waiting for some inspiration. Some came yesterday when I saw some photos in a magazine of my friend Anna's shop Black and Spiro. She had the most beautiful lamp! It had a bright blue base, floral shade and red pom pom fringe. It was just stunning. So here's what I did:
- Took the lamp apart.
- Painted the base (2 coats).
- Made a template of the shade on some paper (measure circumference on either end + length).
- Cut out the fabric leaving about an inch around so as you can tuck/fold the edge under.
- Hot glue gun around the edges of the top and bottom of the shade and carefully attach fabric to the shade. Fold/glue edges under.
- Hot glued the pom pom fringing around the bottom edge.
- Put the lamp back together.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. I have had a real tough week and appreciate all your lovely comments regarding my beautiful dog Truman. Thank-you. Simone xx
Hay Simone love the lamp re-do don't you just love it when things turn out even better than you imagined. Very vintage looking and the red base was a great choice in colour. Wood love to see some more pics of your home. Sandy

That is so stinking cute!! Did you save the original shade? I'm thinking you could make something from that...not sure what, but it has a good shape and texture. Maybe stick a glass vase inside of it and use it as a "vase cozy" for summer.
ReplyDeleteLosing a pet is so hard. I've been there. Just read another blog where a lady lost her dog. :( Makes me so sad for everyone. I know the pain. But it does get better after a while. We lost a dog to prostate cancer a few years ago (I know, who knew dogs could get prostate cancer?!) and it helped me to keep a journal. I was having lots of dreams about him, so I wrote down all of the dreams. I'd also write down favorite memories, etc. because I didn't want to forget anything. ((hugs))
It looks fabulous! You did a great job!

Dear Simone,
ReplyDeleteIt was so special to us to see you again. Thank you so much for the visit to your gorgeous home. It was a lovely afternoon. Again I am so sorry about Truman but like me with our special boy, you will be able to go out and talk to him (even if those passing by think you are a little crazy). Trust me, it helps as silly as it seems. The lady who wrote the journal had a wonderful idea. Think I may try it myself as it isn't long since we lost our boy. Your lamp is beautiful, congratulations on a great achievement. Lots of love, Dee
Major transformation! Looks adorable...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful weekend to you...
