Vintage Toys

I have been wondering how I could display my daughters vintage toys in her room. I found this old cane display rack at a junk shop recently. The toys fit well and I have hung it on the wall for easy access for her. I am such a sucker for vintage toys. They have so much character and charm. Did you have a favourite toy as a child?

Your daughter's treasures look great on the little wicker shelf!

  5. i loved the old style "sit & spin"...i actually bought one off ebay for $50..because the new ones are not nearly as sturdy! my daughter is 6yo. and can still sit & spin on the vintage one i bought for her...a newer model would have never lasted this long...it's still like new!

  11. They look lovely Simone. I love vintage toys as I'm sure your probably know! My favourite toy as a child was a lovely old style doll's pram that was superb and I also loved a big black doll. We were living in New Guinea when I had the doll and I don't know what became of her! Vintage toys are the best! xx

  19. Hi Simone. I love the golliwog [actual name] though now politcally incorrect. As much as there was not a lot of money to spare when we were kids, there was always something to play with and of course we had our fair share of toys. But still the best was 'teddy' and dressing the dog up for whatever make believe pantomine we were doing.. [thanks for stopping by my way]

  23. I had a Richard Scarry toy farm that I would LOVE to find again...unfortunately it was mostly cardboard so I don't imagine they survived the decades very well. At least, I've not been able to find one again so far!

    Love your blog!

  27. where did you find those Simone! Its impossible to find such vintage toys SO CLEAN ! I love your display and I totally agree with you , vintage toys last longer , thats why they are vintage! the new ones out there are all cheap plastics that are cheap LOL did I make my self clear? sorry for the lack of words!

Simone I'm also planning a giveaway ( favor gifts) for the next coming Holy Month of Ramadan , where we exchange gifts that reflect our heritage. I was thinking of children's toys ( old ones from our heritage) and I'm stuck in presentation . I thought a Tea Party concept : each tray containing a Teacup and Tea.. any other ideas would help!

  28. These are great and really bring back memories. I thought kaleidoscopes were the coolest things ever back then.

  29. Well when I was 4 I really liked markers...so much so I took a red one to the white walls while my mother went to take a short nap :o) They ended up buying me wallpaper you could color in with crayons...and they had to paint the white walls red, go figure!

  31. Great! There are so many original ways of displaying kids' toys; we love old crates for books at the mo. I had lots of favourite toys - kaledioscopes, stilts, pogo sticks, rag dolls and a fantastic tin horse that 'walked' . I love wooden toys too.
