Notebook Thief

I carry a little notebook everywhere I go. If I see something somewhere that interests me I make sketches and notes. On a recent trip away (at the beach of course) my daughter had taken it out of my bag without me seeing. At first I was mad. Worried that she may destroy my precious notes. Then I saw her drawing in it! I started to panic. But then I noticed she was delicately drawing flowers and people all around my notes being careful not to draw over anything. So instead of stopping her I got my camera out instead.

  2. You are going to treasure that notebook - just make a little note of the dates she drew them somewhere so that you remember exactly when she drew it all for you when shes 50 :)

  23. Yay for mom and daughter :)

There is a story from a book called, Art and Fear... the art professor tells his child what he does at work, "teach people to draw" and the child says, "you mean they forget???"

  30. don't you just cherish moments like that. i've (and i'm sure lots of us have) had moments when your emotions go from one end to the other to the point where you are about to cry with amazement and you wonder how you could have felt any differently? love that. when your kids are gentle and thoughtful like your daughter was with your notebook, you really feel like, ok...i'm doing something right! :) great little story!

  38. That is so lovely and I'm glad you photographed it. Sometimes the basic things are what my boys also like the most. And it's also great as a mum to stop and smell the roses (and enjoy the moment). She obviously is taking in all the creativity you surround her in and that's wonderful!! Px
