Here are some more pictures of my pretty vintage plates, which I use everyday. Visitors often ask why on earth do I use vintage china the way I do. Scrape them off, bash them about and plonk them in the dishwasher. Some have scratches and some are about to get them. But that's just how I like it.
We use beautiful vintage china every single day too:) I know that some people save theirs for that 'special day' but to us every day is special:)!

They are so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSo, so pretty, your vintage plates and the cloth under them too for that matter ;-). Why not use them? It was what they were meant for, wasn't it? Enjoy your vintage plates! It must be a delight every time you use them, scrape them off or put them in the dishwasher, much more than if they would be sitting in a closet!
ReplyDeleteBye, have a great day!
Marian
good on you, i have loads of my mums old china and Im doing the same each tells a story and has a memory - use it or lose it i say lol
ReplyDeleteit makes absolute sense to me. LOL I do the same!!!
ReplyDelete;-D LOVE the red and white polka dots!!!
My mom always said "why spend money on things you love just have them sit in a closet?" Tru dat mom!
ReplyDeletelove that you use vintage dishes for everyday...awesome
ReplyDeleteI agree. Weathered is better.
ReplyDeleteLOVE these plates and colors :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you are a kindred spirit! I can totally relate! Beautiful plates and tablecloths, and a delight to the eyes!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Love your vintage plates. I am considering trying to scrap and scrounge together 120 vintage plates over the next year for our wedding, do you think it's possible or am I crazy lady?!!
ReplyDeleteThose photos make me smile! I agree with you, pretty vintage china is there to be used, not put away in a cupboard!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Simone - you can't take them with you and I believe they were made to be used.
ReplyDeleteLove the bottom plate.
Hoping you have a great week.

they're so pretty and vintage dishes should be used and not stored away! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your china/linen combos! And I'm with you; things are meant to be used. I don't want to live in a museum, I want to enjoy the things I have in the way they were meant to be used!
ReplyDelete... and it's so fun to use the things we love.
ReplyDeleteSo so pretty...all I use everyday is vintage plates too...if one breaks you run to the thrift store and pick up some more...so fun...love missmatched dishes.
ReplyDeleteLove your linens too...so fun.
Hugs.
So pretty...love that you use them daily ~
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, what fun is it to leave them in a cupboard? Everyday is the perfect day to use your good (or lovely vintage) china and wear your fancy perfume.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I agree, Simone. I can't stand the thought of them lying unused as the 'good china' in the cupboard. J x
ReplyDeleteSimone, I grew up on a home where the 'good' glasses and dinner plates were alway locked in a glass cabinet - hardly ever used. I'm the complete opposite. I use everything I own, if it gets chipped or broken at least I have had the enjoyment of using it.
ReplyDeleteI too like to have things that I can use as opposed to dust collectors that hide in cupboards ;)
ReplyDeletebeautiful stuff!
Ans a BIG amen to that! I don't even have any dishes that aren't vintage...that's just how I roll! ;}
ReplyDeletem ^..^
In other words you enjoy a bit of elegance everyday.
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous plates. There's no point having them if you don't use them. They must make you smile at every meal.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine why people have to ask, when they see the dishes. They are divine! Of course you would want to use them! That's what they're for, right? Well, I get it anyway.

I say... "What's the point of having beautiful things if you don't use them?". I totally get it!
ReplyDeleteMight as well use them as store them.
ReplyDeleteThe polka dot one is cute!
Love the way u display these gorgeous plates. You've got an eye, Simone..
ReplyDeleteI love that you use them like that, I fully believe there's no sense in pretty china that only gets looked at. Special china makes any food special. I love to play tea parties too!
ReplyDeleteI like it that way too Simone ;) Happy Wednesday ~ Txx
ReplyDeletehi simone! i am so with you on the plates! i have at least 200 vintage plates...various sizes...and many get used! i love them. love them!!! nothing matches in my kitchen cabinets, but it all goes together!!!
ReplyDeleteyour plate posts are always so wonderful. thanks for validating my obsession!!! haha.

sue

They're so pretty too. I'm glad you lovingly use and enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
Me too, even if the dishwasher is wearing off the little gold edges.... I would rather use them everyday, than leave them in a dark cupboard covered in dust:)
ReplyDeleteHi Simone, I totally agree with you and I use mine everyday. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteT X
Ooooh, I LOVE the spotty red one!
ReplyDeleteAww i love them so pretty, why not use not i say i use all mine to. I think thats what they were made for, as long as your careful they will last still for more many years to come. Enjoy them ;-)) Dee
ReplyDeleteI agree whole-heartedly. There is no need to be precious. Life is too short and too fun to worry about chipping china. I have my grandmothers and I tend to use it the same way. Love yours. Where did you get them from?
ReplyDeletei love your practical way of thinking: vintage is vintage!
ReplyDeletehave a sweet day,
justyna
I call it the crystal glass rule...I had a set of beautiful crystal glasses that I bought when I got my first job...and I was too scared to use them for sooooo long.
ReplyDeleteNow I make a point to use my beautiful items so that they are enjoyed (right up until the time they get broken!)
I love them too! and adore to use special things on every day life, whats the point of having them if you don´t enjoy them?
ReplyDeleteI agree...saving china for special use is silly...every day is special and those plate and tablecloth pairings really prove that!...have a great week ! best, Susan
ReplyDeleteHi Simone,
ReplyDelete(What a pretty name...much more sophisticated than mine, which is Susan. When I meet women with my name, I know we are the same age. In the 50's, it was very popular, now, not so much.
However, I am writing because I identify with your post today. I have pieces of pottery that speak to me and I use them. I use special silverware and glasses too. The way I look at it, is why not use something unique to do the ordinary? Why just have the same old, same old, day after day? This can be a problem, since I love thrifting and so many things catch my eye. Plus, the price is right. I am home from school, sick with a mini bug which I got from one of my students. I am inspired to clean off this pigpen of a desk and make it lovely, like yours. So, my desk is sending a big, Thanks to Simone!
I replaced our modern dinner set with mismatched china....I love that every piece is different. I often wonder about the meals and stories that the plates could tell (giggles, odd I know). Overall I love that it is used everyday and not just stuck in a cabinet to be admired.
ReplyDeleteBecause you've got great style Simone! So much more inviting eating from one of those plates than a boring, plain white one!! Pruxxx P.S. Hard to pick a favourite - but plate #1 is simply stunning! Pxxx
ReplyDeleteCertainly beats boring white plates.... and they mean something... they have passed through many lives. I think it is beautiful. A-M xx
ReplyDeleteVintage is style! Great post.
ReplyDeletethere's a lot here... :D
ReplyDeleteI love old china, like a lot of others, I have a collection from generations past and it's so special to have them and be able to use them. Every time I get them out beautiful memories come floating back of my Grandma and Great Aunts.
ReplyDeleteKeren :o)
And that is the way it always should be. Why wait to use your favorite things? No time like the present. Beautiful plates they are too! xxoo :)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I use something from my grandmother or nan it brings back lovely memories of them. Certainly can't get that from brand new plain things.
ReplyDeleteLee:)
Hi Simone, I have some Wedgwood which comes out for afternoon tea! I still like to keep some british traditions! Have fun, Lisa
ReplyDeleteYes Simone its great to use them as
ReplyDeletethey were intended, to be used all
the time. I try to use mine often.
Plus a chip or scratch is what life
is all about. I just broke my 30 YO
corning ware saucepan/casserole dish:(
I got it for my wedding kitchen tea.
Never mind I still have one left now.
It was made in Australia, those were
the days!
I agree, Simone. The only exception I make here is my Nanna's old bone china which I do bring out for special. The rest is used every day. Have you seen the new Cath Kidston catalogue? I love the cover photo with the girl surrounded by her pretty plates. xx
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely- and all the more reason to use them everyday:)
ReplyDeleteWe scarcely have matching anything in our house! We use my grandmother's, my mother's and my mother-in-law's plates and cutlery as well as our own unmatched stuff, old in its own right - Golden Wedding next year. Fetching them out of the cupoards and drawers each day means I can give previous owners a passing thought and if they're secondhand buys, I can wonder who owned them before. All are lovely reminders of happy days. Can't be bad! You carry on enjoying.
ReplyDeleteOh, and greetings from the old country! G.
Yes the only thing I find is that the dishwasher fades the design which is disappointing. But I still think better to use than stash away never to see daylight
ReplyDeletealicia
Love the colors. Such flair for design and color, I have serious Crafty Envy again :}
ReplyDeleteSo true. These pretty objects should be used, and wear only creates more character.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit xox
Use the good china! I couldn't agree more. After all, what are we saving it for? It's just one way design and pretty things can add delight to every day.
ReplyDeleteI am with you :) we have some fab 1940s plates and some retro 60s that get used day in day out ... I pop them in the dishie too, give them to the kids to eat off and have such joy in seeing them everyday :) best le
ReplyDeleteThank gooness I am not the only one who treats their vintage china this way.
ReplyDeleteCan't beat a well loved piece of china - even if the dishwasher has faded the gold/silver edging. Adds character - LOL
