This is a simple idea. I have seen it done before. But I wanted to give it a go my way! The quick way!
- 3 glass jars from the local charity shop $1.40
- 2 bottles of acrylic paint on sale for $2 each
- Small paintbrush
Clean your jars first. Fill up each jar with equal amounts of white paint. Then put one drop of your chosen colour in the first jar, 2 drops in the next and 3 in the last. This will make each shade different. Mix around with a small paintbrush so all the sides are coated. Roll the jars as you go for a more even look. Turn upside down to dry on an old placemat, preferably in the sun. It will take at least 6-8 hours to dry. As roses are too expensive this time of year [ they always double the price for Valentines Day] I opted for some local foliage from my garden.
Have a wonderful weekend. Next week I will announce the winners of my hosted lunch.

ReplyDeleteWow! That's an amazing improvement! I am very much inspired to color our clear jars right away and turn them to vases.
ReplyDeleteHi Simone...they look fabulous...I may try it with some blackboard paint??
ReplyDeletedont ask me why but i am in a blackboard paint/burlap/hessian kind of mood!!~~
xx andrea
These are pretty, Simone. I love the soft pinks...
ReplyDeleteI paint on most anything glass...but I paint the exterior. I use acrylic enamel paints, then bake them in the oven for 45 minutes...start with a cold oven, "cook", then turn the oven off and let the glass cool inside the oven. This sets the paint and the glass can be hand washed. If you want to try plates, paint them on the underside. Sometimes I use a sponge, sometimes squirt bottles, and sometimes a brush. There are so many interesting things you can do with glass...and there is so much glass available at the thrift shops...What better combination...

OMG! Love those jars. I was just thinking about painting some old spaghetti sauce jars. Now, I have a reason to do it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteNice & pink it looks so easy now you have shown me, I might just have to dare to have a go myself it looks soooo pretty!! :))
ReplyDeleteThese pink jars are sweet! What are the leaves you display in them? I love them!
ReplyDeleteI have been painting glass for many years...usually on the reverse side, so they can be used for food. Try enamel paints, and bake them in your oven (simple directions). They will last for years, as long as you handwash them.

I've been meaning to do this, I have only seen it done with white paint ...... you have just inspired me to get to it ..... with a twist: ADD COLOR !!!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I was saving a few glass jars to do some art project with. Thanks for the inspiration!

Simone, turning the jars upside down did not work. Was it the amount of paint I used? I noticed half had run off the insides.. I ended up redoing and then just drying upright.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea!! I have a big collection of lovely coffee jars I just can't bear to part with and had been wondering what to do with them... I shall have to give this a go sometime!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, will have to try it out one weekend at the cottage with the kids.
ReplyDeleteso THAT is how you do it!!!! always loved a painted glass. thanks lovely girl! x

ReplyDeleteYou've got yourself a new follower!
So gorgeous and love the pinks. I always save a few small jars...now I have a project!
ReplyDeleteReally nice job. But, I am assuming that you can't fill them with water to use as a vase because then the paint would wash away?
ReplyDeleteI am definetly going to give this a whirl..Love it!!..xx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love how easy this looks. I have seen other versions too, but they are too detailed. Thanks for the quick way!
ReplyDeletelove this d-i-y, so simple the way you've shown it and they look so fancy, and love how inexpensive (O:
