You know those storage units you can buy from the hardware store. With the ugly steel frames? Well the thing is we needed to buy some for the studio but we had to try and make them more appealing to the eye. Is that possible? Well, here's what we did:
- Unpack the units and separate all the outer frames.
- Grab some different coloured spray cans - we used pale pink, blue, green and yellow.
- In an opened aired area spray straight onto the steel and cover all sides on all frames.
- After the paint has dried assemble the units.
If you really want a mismatched look you could even put the units together with 4 different colours each end.

Cute! Cute! Cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous idea! They look great with the linens.
Hi Simone
ReplyDeleteI love the idea - I think you need to speak to the manufacturers and put your name to producing them in your theme colours for girls craft rooms!
have a happy day and a relax on the weekend I hope for you

What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteOoooh look at those colors:-)
ReplyDeleteHope things are well, I miss your blog! Darn busy life!
Hi Simone, This project idea is absolutely brilliant (as they all are). I am wondering if I can get away with spraypainting hubby's similar shelves in his shed. Perhaps pretty blues and purples??
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and they look fresh and festive with the fabric on them.

Great looking shelves Simone but I can't help eyeing all that gorgeous fabric :)

Love this idea...I just had the spray paint cans out ....in pinks...you should see the sweet chairs I painted. I love spray paint! Hugs
ReplyDeleteI was only at Bunnings today looking at them thinking I really really need some.So when I do I know what I will be doing with them thanks xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever way to bright up the store room - maybe I should try it out on my husband's shed

Love the colour improvement. Have a great weekend too. xx
ReplyDeleteTotally love what you have done with these. x
ReplyDeleteGood GOD that is pretty, check out what you're doing with that space, AMAZING!! Love Posie
ReplyDeleteThey look so pretty with all the gorgeous fabric stacked on them. x
ReplyDeleteWonderful transformation...
ReplyDeleteI just love what spray paint can do.
On this one I have to give my husband credit -- before I even met him he did the very same thing to the exact same metal shelves. Of course he had them in his living room -- not quite as darling as having them in your studio. But I think it may work again for stashing stuff in our laundry.
ReplyDeleteOf course, thinking outside the box, literally! Out of the box and then morphed into something fun.
ReplyDeletegreat idea! I am in love with storage shelves anyway, I really need some for my utility room. I love to stock up on things.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of painting them. Smart!
ReplyDeleteWow Simone you have been busy it looks awsome!! :)) x
ReplyDeleteWow! Great job! I would have a field day with all of those fabrics! They are sooo fun! What do you use them all for?
ReplyDeletePerfect idea....these shelves are everywhere at our place and not just in the garage...so they can look so much better! Why don't they make them these colours in the first place????
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea, I love it!!
ReplyDeleteLovely idea. I have quite a few shelves not exactly like these but I can use the same technique and make them prettier. Right now they're painted in black (ugly).
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky you have an attic!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are both from New England and now live in South Florida where attics aren't really found anywhere. We miss that extra space - it always creates such a cozy nook or great storage.
Great job!
Linda
Yes indeed those shelves were ugly but now they look fabulous!! Might have to try that one myself...the garden shed got a paint make over the other in much the same colours...much better than ugly grey metal..sorry but that industrial look is just not me either!
ReplyDeleteI do love the fabric I am spying in those shelves...let me at it!!
Hope your weekend was wonderful.
Kiss Noises Linda
This is excellent! What a great way to spruce up a garage or attic area! We are in the process of - once again - organizing our garage. Maybe I need some paint first! Thanks for the inspiration - as always!!
ReplyDeleteRobin
Very pretty! Loving the look of that fabric too! Happy week! X
ReplyDeleteSimple but so effective Simone! Like your style! xxx
ReplyDeletewow, what a fantastic idea, you have totally transformed a rather plain shelving unit into something pretty
ReplyDeleteLee:)

ReplyDeleteSimone these are the exact ones I use for my storage. I'm going to have to try your little DIY very soon!
