Quick Tea Towel Chair Cover

I bought these 2 tea towels today (am I hooked on tea towels or what ?). They are new but I thought very pretty. So when I got home I decided to fold them over my arm chair, top and bottom. A quick fix for me and my floral addiction.

Snippets around my home today by me

Yesterday I got some roses from my local rose farm. I usually go for pinks or reds but I decided these looked so pretty. Then I started noticing this colour was already a favourite at home. Funny how your subconscious works.

Breaking Rules

Pictures all from flickr
I don't have any formal qualifications in decorating. I read a lot though. I came across an old saying in colour and design theory that stated: "Blue with Green should never be seen". Go figure....Does anyone know of any other decorating "rules" that were meant to be broken?

Project Day: Framed Tea Towels

photo's by me

Usually I don't pay professionals to frame anything. I do it myself. But in this case I had to take a back seat and let them do their work. You see I found these second hand tea towels for a song and I really wanted them to be a showcase in our main living room. So I paid up and got them framed. I have to admit they look fabulous. To buy them finished like this in a store would have cost a whole lot more. Even thrifty girls can spurge once in awhile hey? Yipee it's the weekend. Have a ball of a time. Talk next week. Simone xx

My House is Crochet Mad

pictures by me

Today my house has gone a little crochet mad. Last week I picked up these 3 items at an op shop for 50c, 20c and $5 respectively (gee I love the country town church shops). So today I couldn't help but splash them around the place. It has already brightened my day. Hope it does the same for you.

Caravans and Creeks

I am back. I have lots of catching up to do in blogland so I will make it brief. Here are a few shots of my daughter collecting river rocks behind our camp site. I just adore watching kids play like this.

Project Day: Vintage Hankerchief Curtain

As promised I have made something using part of my collection of vintage hankies. I had quite a few children's ones so I decided to make a little curtain for my daughters room. Here's how:
  • Measure your window length and depth. In my case it was approx 1.6m long x 1m drop.
  • A standard hanky measures approx 25-30cm square, so I made my curtain 7 hankies across and 2 down. This allowed a little extra length so the curtains could 'gather' on the rod. And I wanted it to sit short of the window base. Add more or less to your own taste.
  • Arrange and then sew all the hankies together. Don't worry if it's not perfect, that's what we are aiming for.
  • With a piece of contrasting fabric (I chose pink gingham) sew in an opening for your curtain rod.
  • Iron / press & hang!
This took me a few hours as I cant sew very well (thanks for letting me use your machine mum). I think the result is a little shabby, imperfect and WoNDERFUL! Have great weekend in the sunshine. Simone xx

Marshmallows and Hairclips

image from new magazine "Shop for Girls"

I just love this picture from the latest edition of Shop for Girls Magazine. The colours are so pretty. Hair clips and headbands mixed with marshmallows all in a glass jar. A girl wouldn't know which to grab first.

My Mismatched Plate Rack

People are asking to see my kitchen, so over the next few weeks I will be posting snippets here and there. Here is my plate rack on the main wall. We use these plates daily and even when I have a dinner party all the plates are used from here. Whenever I see a cheap vintage plate for sale I grab it as sometimes we have breakages (which don't matter at all). The cups are from Robert Gordon. If there's one thing I love it's mismatching.

The Cupcake Theory

On Sunday I made some mini cupcakes for Fathers Day. As I took this photo I wondered for a second, has the cupcake thing been overdone? It seems everywhere I look I see them. And don't get me wrong because I adore them. I eat them by the truckloads. I just wonder what it is that has recently captivated us all. A few years back there wasn't a book about cupcakes, now they saturate the food sections of bookstores. So what is it that's changed?

How Could You?

Images via flickr
How could anyone really use these beautiful vintage hankerchiefs for their intended purpose? I have such a huge collection of these things. This week my goal is to make something with them. Happy Monday.

Project Day: Vintage Tablecloth Pencils

Pencils can be so boring sometimes. Here's what you can do to change it. You will need:
  • Vintage fabric scraps cut into thin strips (I used a scrap from a vintage tablecloth).
  • Lead pencils (round ones work best).
  • Craft glue.
Cover each lead pencil with a coating of glue (spray adhesive works best I found). Hold the pencil by the lead end. Starting at the bottom end of the pencil start attaching your fabric strips by winding them around and around making sure the glue is holding it in place. Doesn't matter if you run short, just grab another fabric strip and keep winding where you left off until the entire pencil is covered. Trim any excess fraying with nail scissors or leave the frayed edge for an extra shabby look. Easy peasy, took 10 minutes and now I have nice looking pencils. Have a wonderful love filled weekend everyone. Talk next week. Simone xx

Apartment Therapy : My Home Tour

Apartment Therapy approached me last month for a home tour. I still don't know why but I didn't ask questions. As you may already know I had my backyard featured in June. Anyway, I had to send in 30 shots and they edited them down to 15. I am so thrilled. A big thanks to Jenny from AT. So now I feel completely exposed. But in a good way. Here's the link so come over for a look inside. Yipee !

I Have a Fever

all pictures by me

I woke up this morning with a fever. Spring fever that is. Today is the first day of Spring in Australia. Yipee! So today I am spreading this fever all through my house because Spring is my all time favourite season. Here are a few snaps from around the beach house today. What's your favourite season ? I would love to know.
