How else do you do it - has to be your heart. i just did a post for next week on a dress that captured my heart for $30 at goodwill. it turned out to be an $800 dress from barneys! my point being, our hearts are usually smart whether it's something of monetary value or of value in helping to make our houses into homes. sweet finds.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a perfect quote...I'm all heart when I'm thrifting! I am always thinking, "Oh grandama had that!"..."Remember those!"..."We used to have one like that!" It's just a trip down memory lane!

if only i could 'pop' you over here to come rambling through the 2nd hand shops in my village Simone! i loved nothing better than a good rummage through an 'op-shop' whilst in sydney or going up the coast in those quintessential aust towns- and now i have all the vintage i can find on my doorstop here in ham St.Annes....must put some finds on my blog.

ReplyDeleteI recognise your shopping style, hi hi!
So there! Tiny was called Mary, in English?! The book on top was my all-time-favorite, and when I open it nowadays, I am that little dreamer again, wanting a birthday, just like Mary/Tiny.
ReplyDeleteI rarely open it ;)
Hi Simone,
ReplyDeleteGreat shopping. What wonderful bargains. I meant to tsay to you yesterday that you just have to go to Toowoomba Swap meet next year. You would absolutely LOVE it. All that stuff! I can't even begin to tell you what wonderful items were there.
I saw so many vintage things that I am sure you would have snapped up, (old tins, plates, etc) and much more.
Drag your folks along and we'll see you there.
Much love
Dee

ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeletebeautiful things and so fun this book "MAry learns to dance" I had when I was 6 (in french "Martine, petit rat de l'opéra") is the book that gave me the idea to become a dancer ... I didn't know it was translated worldwide!
Have a nice day!
Nice treasures!
ReplyDeleteOh I love thrift shop shopping too. I especially like the vintage sewing tape measures and children's books
ReplyDeleteHi Simone
ReplyDeleteI was just reading your blog and came across this post....I am 40 yrs old and I have that Mary book! (still!!) It was one of my most favourite books as a child and I am hoping my girls will have similiar memories from it.
Love your blog!!
Sharon (Burnett Heads - QLD)
wow, maybe australia is the vintage paradise. Such great prices. I was in a thrift store yesterday, picked up two cute little unicorn figurines...in good shape, but fairly new and not something that would be expensive in a regular store. My little niece adores unicorns and she has been going thru some hard times lately, I thought they would be nice to cheer her up. They had no price so I took them up front and the lady working that day (they have different volunteers daily) looked at them and then just pulled a number out of the air - $3 each!! Ridiculous. It should have been more than $2 for the pair. I could have probably bought them brand new for less than $6. And this is a store with all donated items!!! Some of these shops are getting greedy.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog. This is probably going to sound rude, and I certainly don't mean it to.....but.....
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose you would consider selling the four vintage books you bought about Mary? I had these books when I was a child and have searched absolutely everywhere to buy them but have never seen them again until now. They were my favourite picture books when I was young.
Kind regards,
Leanne (from Tassie)
