In my previous life I owned a modern slim lined green sofa. It seemed to follow me everywhere I went. Since we purchased our house 2 years ago it has been feeling a little out of place. I wanted to get rid of it, replace with something more 'beachy'. I have tried a few things to hide it's modern appeal but to no avail. Alas, until today. It took the right mix of vintage sheets to give this poor sofa a new lease on life and give it belonging to it's surrounds:
- I used 2 vintage sheets {$3.00 each} and 1 tablecloth {pink check}.
- I cut {eek! } the vintage pink floral sheet in half for the side arms. I simply tucked the sides deep into the sofa.
- For the back I used a vintage white single bed sheet. Again I tucked the sheet deep into the sofa, into the folds.
- For the main seat I used a pink check tablecloth {another thrift store find}. I didn't cut this one as I may need to use it again one day soon! I simply tucked it all in once again.
Add a few pillows and I was done. So now we are all happy and the poor sofa can stay a little longer. Have a super weekend. Stay safe. Simone xx
I love the mix of fabrics you used, and the heart pillow is gorgeous! Another no sew project - I love these!! Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Simone, I'd like to be the first to say: "That is such a cute idea! Especially using a mix of vintage sheets rather than just one cover - Love it!" You've given me some ideas for decorating our spare room...I have a couple of small chairs to cover and I'll fuss them up a bit in different covers! Yay! Thanks - Have a great Friday! ReplyDeleteThat looks really sweet! I can remember my childhood best friends' mother using similiar sheets over their lounge to 'keep in clean'. See never had such lovely cushions to decorate the sofa with though!
ReplyDeleteI did see on another blog, a lady used painters drop sheets (so like thick calico I guess?) to recover her sofa, that came up well too and little bit 'beachy' too.
Cheers
Sharon

ReplyDeletefunny, I have been thinking of an armchair just yesterday
it's amazing how it "belongs" to the place now, with all the light colours; it was a little dark before, compared with all the others things in the room.. well done

And most importantly, it doesn't end up at the dump amid trash and other debris. I believe it is important to reuse, repurpose, and give new life to old things. Like reincarnation. Literally.

To create an inviting and totally stylish environment in people gathering areas of home color coordination is important. Sofa sets are easily molds in with earth-toned or bright-colored themes. Now you don’t have to worry of any mismatch or unsightly sofa that leaves a ‘less than likable’ impression.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing......
Hi Simone,
ReplyDeleteI love how you've done the bookshelves above the lounge. Where can I find something similar with adjustable shelves?
Thanks
It seemed to follow me everywhere I went. Since we purchased our house 2 years ago it has been feeling a little out of place. I wanted to get rid of it, replace with something more 'beachy'. I have tried a few things to hide it's modern appeal but to no avail. Alas, until today.
